Archaeologists reveal the Byzantine fortress of Varna |

Archaeologists have uncovered on the shores of the Black Sea in Bulgaria remains of a fortress from the early Byzantine period - reported Radio Bulgaria website.
The ancient fortress is located on Cape St. Athanasius of Varna on the Black Sea in the occupied until recently by the Navy.
Access to the known position of the nineteenth-century names were not previously possible due to be laid out in this area military installations. Scientists from the Archaeological Museum in Varna, who led the investigation of ancient ruins, said at this stage that the building dates from the early Byzantine period. Fortress was founded during the reign of Anastasius I, emperor of the East in the years 491-518, and the emperor Justin I, who reigned from 518-527 and was part of the larger fortifications, built during this time on the Black Sea.
